Rumour has it that Luther Vandross himself was the first one to come up with the Donut Bacon Cheeseburger giving a nice balance of sweet & savoury to this version of a classic. We’ve decided it needed just a bit more so we added our twist of a southern staple with the “Comeback Sauce”. Traditional a comeback sauce is used in Mississippi as a dip for Fried Foods (Trust me…it’s great for that too!)
I find the comeback sauce is a great “All in One” condiment for sandwiches as it’s premixed & isn’t adding layers of liquids which can make a sandwich extra sloppy!
- Frying pan or griddle
- Mixing bowl
- Measuring Spoons & Cups
- Burger Flipper
- Bread Knife
- Ground Beef (1 pound)
- 6 Small Sized glazed donuts
- 3 Slices of your favourite Cheese
- 6 slices of bacon
- Comeback sauce (recipe below)
- Motley Que Steak Fixx
Comeback Sauce Recipe
Mix together in a small bowl
- 1 Cup Mayo
- 2.5 Tablespoons Spicy Fixx
- 1.5 Tablespoons Honey
- 1 Tablespoon of your prefered Hot Sauce
- 2 teaspoons Cajun Seasoning
- 1.5 teaspoons Worchestershire Sauce
Start by evenly portioning your ground beef into 6 “meatballs” while pan frying the bacon. Once bacon is finished, set aside.
Using your burger flipper, “smash” the meatballs into thin patties in your pre heated “medium heat” pan.
Once the smashed patties are flattened, liberally season with Steak Fixx
Once burgers start to “crust” on the bottom, flip
Using bread knife, slice donuts in half like any burger bun.
Once burgers reach an internal temp of 155F, top with a half slice of cheese (folded over) & cover until cheese melts & internal temp of burgers reach 165F.
Set Burgers aside to rest. I personally like to store the burgers & bacon in my microwave (not powered up) as it contains the heat much like a thermos
Place Cut side of Donuts down in frying pan, using drippings as a fat to help sear or toast the donuts
Once the cut side of the donuts have darkened up a bit (be careful, the sugar in the donut may burn quickly, it is time to assemble.
Place 1 half of the half donut, cut side down and place cooked burger patty on glazed side, top with a half piece of cooked bacon and drizzle the comeback sauce over and top with the other half of the donut, glazed side in, allowing the donut to be eaten easily by handling the cut sides of the dout.
